  Directors Corner

The next phase of our refurbishment is starting this month with the double glazing getting fitted, the fixing of our garage roof and decorating and improving the upstairs of the
Centre building.

If anyone has the time and skills and would like to help our physically please don’t hesitate to contact me. Volunteers are urgently needed as we would lke to complete these jobs by the end
of the summer..

Alternatively if you are cash rich and time poor below are details on how you may like to help out. Please do be as generous as you can and help us fulfil our vision of an improved Centre for residents and visitors.

Cash Rich – Time Poor

  • become a member of the 100 Club (monthly donation of £5 minimum
    to enter a monthly
    prize draw)

  • make an interest-free loan, for a minimum of 1 year (ideally longer). For loans in excess of £1000 you will receive a free day or week-end course of your choice for each year that the loan exists.
  • make a 1-off donation. For every £1000 donated you will receive a centre card valid . for 1 year

Cash poor – Time Rich

  • Buy Atisha Centre – the extension will cost approximately £30,000. Would you like to purchase some bricks at £1.00 each. We will also need 10 cans of paint at about £3 a tin (rough estimate)..

Kitchen

Are you a kitchen fitter? Would you be able to share your expertise with us?

We will also need to buy the following equipment:

2 Cookers (£300 each)

2 Fridges (£300 each)

4 dining room tables
(£125 each)

12 dining chairs (£30 each)

3 Framed pictures (£20 each)
– or maybe you would like
to paint some for us

Kitchen Units (1500)

Floor covering (£500)

Gas Boiler (7000)

You may feel able to buy one of these items, or you may prefer to contribute towards the cost of a particular item. You specify where you would like your money spent.

Are you able to get trade or staff discount on any of these items? This would be a great help in ‘stretching’ our money.

Bedrooms

2 Writing Tables (£40 each)

2 Wardrobes (£60each)

? Carpets (£300 each)

Partition for two back
bedrooms (£500)

Is there any way you can help us to make our residents feel cherished? All types of contributions are necessary and important.

Other

14 Double- glazed windows (£285 each)

1 Bathroom Suite (£500)

Repairs to garage roof (£500)

Pointing to external brickwork (£100)

So there you have it. This is our first wish list. I do hope you will wish to be part of this wonderful venture and help us to develop a ‘new & improved’ Atisha Centre.

until next month;
with love and blessings

This practice contains methods for overcoming obstacles to our spiritual progress and for creating conditions that quickly nurture and increase our virtue. In this day course, Kelsang Chödor will give a commentary to the essential practice of the New Kadampa Tradition and also give advice on how to rely upon a Spiritual Guide out of meditation.

Festival Programme

Transmission and Teachings on Mahamudra Tantra

Part Two: How to Train in Mahamudra

Part Three: What is Emptiness?

The Summer Festival is a special spiritual holiday when we receive extensive teachings from Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

During this, our sixteenth Summer Festival, Geshe Kelsang will continue his transmission and explanation of the practice of Mahamudra, which he began last year, based on his book Mahamudra Tantra.

These teachings are open to everyone; it is not necessary to have received teachings on Part One.

Mahamudra Tantra is a mind that simultaneously experiences great bliss and realizes emptiness, or ultimate truth, directly.

In the first week, Geshe Kelsang will explain how we can experience great bliss through the six stages of training in Mahamudra. These teachings will be followed by a guided meditation retreat.

In the second part of the Festival, he will explain how to realize ultimate truth, emptiness. This will also be followed by a guided meditation retreat on emptiness.

Saturday 28 July is a free day giving an opportunity to explore the local Lake District countryside, or simply relax. Coach trips are arranged for overseas visitors, which include a short walk, a picnic lunch and a boat trip
