A Pure Life
Lay Pratimoksha Vows
Sunday 11th February 10am - 12
noon
Cost is
£5.00
The Pratimoksha Vows have
been granted since the time of Buddha in order to keep our practice
of pure moral discipline. When we take the vows we promise to
refrain from certain negative actions such as killing, as well as
from taking intoxicants, the basis of many faults. If we take and
keep these vows, all our virtuous actions become powerful and a
cause of personal liberation. Our practice of moral discipline also
overcomes distractions and improves our mindfulness, thereby
improving the strength and stability of our concentration. These
vows are therefore important for anyone interested in leading a
pure life and gaining authentic spiritual realisations. In this
short ceremony, suitable for beginners, Kelsang Chödor will first
give an explanation of the practice of moral discipline before
granting the vows.
Those who have already taken the vows can also
attend.
