A Pure Life
Lay Pratimoksha Vows

Sunday 11th February 10am - 12 noon

Cost is £5.00

The Pratimoksha Vows have been granted since the time of Buddha in order to keep our practice of pure moral discipline. When we take the vows we promise to refrain from certain negative actions such as killing, as well as from taking intoxicants, the basis of many faults. If we take and keep these vows, all our virtuous actions become powerful and a cause of personal liberation. Our practice of moral discipline also overcomes distractions and improves our mindfulness, thereby improving the strength and stability of our concentration. These vows are therefore important for anyone interested in leading a pure life and gaining authentic spiritual realisations. In this short ceremony, suitable for beginners, Kelsang Chödor will first give an explanation of the practice of moral discipline before granting the vows.

Those who have already taken the vows can also attend.

Do You Fancy... A Sponsored Swim?

Do you want to take part in a sponsored swim to raise money for Atisha Centre's renovations? A team of six or more people will collectively swim the distance of the English Channel (32km) – in the pool at the Dolphin Centre in Darlington! It works out at just over 5km each and they'll all swim at the same time – we already have 3 people, contact Debbs at Atisha Centre if you're interested. Once we have our team we'll set a date for it.

New Way Of Supporting Atisha Centre

The Merit 100 Club is a novel way of helping the Centre to flourish by giving money on a monthly basis. The Club is limited to 100 people and the minimum monthly donation is £10. Payments are made by standing order.

Atisha Centre does not rely on any central funds or resources to support its activities. Although the centre receives income from rents and course fees this is never enough to cover our outgoings.

Every year we rely on individual donations from kind benefactors. Every penny is spent wisely and as a registered charity (No. 1013466) we can reclaim the tax on your donation if you are in employment.

Your money is needed to maintain and improve the facilities at the Centre and it will also enable us to run and promote meditation classes throughout the region bringing Dharma to those who desperately need it.
