Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso is a fully accomplished meditation master and internationally renowned teacher of Buddhism. Born in Tibet, he was ordained as a Buddhist monk at the age of eight and spent almost forty years in concentrated study and meditation. In 1959, along with thousands of fellow Tibetans Geshe Kelsang fled Tibet for India, where he spent 17 years in meditative retreat in the Himalayas.

Throughout this time Geshe Kelsang emphasised the practices of Kadampa Buddhism, a very pure form of Buddhism that dates from the time of Buddha himself.

Since arriving in the West in 1977 Geshe-la has continued to give immaculate teachings on Kadampa Buddhism in Europe and North America, and published a series of remarkable books on Buddhism and meditation that explain clearly and practically every aspect of Buddha's teachings, including Tantric Buddhism. He has worked selflessly to provide all the conditions Westerners need to enter, make progress on and complete the Buddhist path to happiness and peace.

He has trained qualified Buddhist spiritual teachers in countries all around the world and established over 1000 Kadampa Buddhist Centres and groups worldwide. Through these activities many people now have the opportunity to develop authentic compassion, wisdom and inner peace by studying on one of the unique study programmes he has designed
